More information about the Earned Income Tax Levy:
- Operating and Capital Improvement: The 1.0 % Earned Income Tax is for operating expenses and capital improvement projects. It is NOT a property tax.
- Property Tax Rollback: If the levy passes, the Board of Education will roll back 2.15 mills of property taxes, providing direct property tax savings to homeowners.
- Who Pays: An Earned Income Tax is collected by employers (regardless of location) via payroll taxes from individuals who live in the Lebanon City School District. Self-employed individuals pay the tax through quarterly estimated payments.
- What is Taxed: Earned income includes wages, salaries, tips, and self-employment income (such as sole proprietorships and partnerships).
- What is Excluded: Unearned income is excluded, including retirement pensions, 401(k) withdrawals, Social Security, interest, dividends, capital gains, and unemployment benefits.
