Last spring we announced the launch of The Legacy Project, a collaborative capital improvement initiative that will have a lasting impact on Lebanon City Schools’ student-athletes and the Lebanon community as a whole. 

Phase One of the project began in the fall. Artificial turf field installation at Lebanon High School, located on Drake Road, is underway. The project is slated for completion in March, allowing Lebanon lacrosse teams to open their season at their new home.

At VanDeGrift Stadium on Miller Road, demolition work has begun to replace the home bleachers and to install a new pressbox. Both projects have a completion goal of August 2024, in time for the first home football game of the season.

The Legacy Project is not tied to a levy. Phase One is being completed without needing to ask taxpayers for funding and without impacting the district’s general fund operating budgets. 

Funding for Phase One projects is coming from donations and from revenues gained by a 20-year renewal extension on a tax increment financing agreement with Miami Valley Gaming.

The future phases of The Legacy Project are dependent upon private support and corporate sponsors, and include plans for more updates and additions at the Stadium including new locker rooms, new visitor bleachers, an entry plaza, new concessions, and new restrooms. Further updates at LHS, dependent upon private support, include a new field house, a permanent marching band tower, and improved grass practice fields.

PHASE ONE UPDATES

Projects at James VanDeGrift Stadium:

• Demolition of the existing home bleachers has begun. Installation of the new bleachers will begin in April. 

• The old bleachers were donated to Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio in exchange for their excavation company to remove the bleachers and prepare the site, at an approximate savings to the district of $75,000.

• The pressbox will be removed and stored at a district facility to be used elsewhere as part of a later district project, saving district funds.

Projects at Lebanon High School:

• The landscaping and soil was removed, new field drainage work completed, fencing installed, and concrete curbs around the new turf field were formed.

• The leftover topsoil will be used to level and prepare an adjacent practice field, saving the district funds on this initial project and in the future.

• The district is partnering with The Warren County Career Centers’ Heavy Equipment program; students will spread the dirt and level the practice field.
