Message from our Superintendent- (1/19/17)

Thank you Lebanon – Lebanon City Schools express appreciation to the community.

Guest Column - Todd Yohey, Superintendent, Lebanon City Schools

On behalf of the Lebanon City School District, I want to thank the Lebanon community for its support of the bond issue that has provided funding to renovate or build new facilities for our current and future students. The impact of that support was clearly evident when students and staff reported back to school at the new Lebanon Junior High School. In many communities, junior high schools tend to be second-hand buildings, i.e. former high schools or middle schools. Not often do junior high students, staff and parents get to experience the excitement of opening a new school building. I had many teachers and students tell me that they could not sleep the night before school started in January. Everyone I have talked to has described how wonderful it is to teach and learn in the new building. Excitement and wonder are hallmarks of good instruction.

At the same time, we have received some feedback from a few community members regarding the size of some of our new spaces. Once reminded that our project was only made possible through the support of our community AND a partnership with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), they understand better some of the limitations we faced in our project. OFCC projects are co-funded by the state and the local school district. As such, OFCC plays a big role in decisions regarding the scope of the project. The state will only fund the square footage space approved by OFCC. If you get a chance to visit the new junior high and think the cafeteria is too small or the gym is not big enough, please remember the spaces were built to the specifications in the OFCC design manual. We have a great partner in OFCC and they have worked hard in helping us stretch every dollar to fulfill our facility needs.

The district is planning a community open house this spring. Time and date has not been determined so please be on the lookout for it. We hope to see you there!

Afternoon Pickup-  (1/11/17)

When you are picking up your child in the afternoon, please make sure you are in a marked parking space.  This will help ensure the safety of all students who are attempting to find their parents in the afternoon.  We also request that you park in the open spaces closest to the football field and not park in the area where the Berry teachers are parking.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Video (1/6/17)

Thanks to Lebanon resident Ron Alvey for this aerial video of our new junior high. Click Here to Watch Video.

Brief Lockdown Today (1/5/17)

Today, when we learned of the incident at the Warren County Career Center, we briefly put the building on a modified lockdown until we received further information regarding the situation.  This was done as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all students.  Once we received the all clear, the modified lockdown was lifted and activities resumed as planned.  Our students and staff did an excellent job responding quickly to the lockdown instructions.

Successful Opening (1/4/17)

The junior high had a successful opening yesterday with all students getting another tour of the building to start the day and a review of behavior expectations in the new building.  Students them attended classes, ate lunch, and overall it was a great beginning to our time in the new junior high.  Thank you to all the parents, teachers, and students for patience during this transition!

Help Needed from Parents and Students (10/22/16)

UDF, Domino's, and Subway on Broadway have all had issues this fall with students coming to their businesses after school and not representing themselves or their families in an appropriate manner.  Students are moving items around the store at UDF, coming in large groups, taking space in the parking lots, cursing in front of guests, and overall just being disrespectful.  The businesses are happy to serve our students however they must conduct themselves in a manner that does not disrupt their business with other customers.  This is after school hours and the businesses have been advised to contact the Lebanon Police if they continue to have issues with our students.  We are requesting all students and parents help us rectify this situation and respect these businesses who support our community in many ways.

(dalton.brian@lebanonschoools.org)

Cell Phone Use at School- (8/12/16)

This year, students will once again have the opportunity to use cell phones in their classrooms for educational purposes.  Many teachers are using a "stoplight" policy to help students know when they can and cannot use the phones in their classroom.  When the light is red, students are not permitted to use the cell phones that day.  When the light is green, students are permitted to use the phone during the period.  When the light is yellow, students can use the phones but must wait until they are told by the teacher when and how to use them.  Ultimately, cell phone use in the classroom is determined by the teacher. Students who do not follow the cell phone policy of the teacher may have their phone taken by the teacher.  If you need to contact your child by text, please understand that your student may only reply during lunch time and between classes.
