The Big Picture: Most of Our Budget Supports People

In public education, the largest investment we make is in our staff. Approximately 80% of our budget goes directly to staff. This website takes a closer look at how staffing decisions are made, what goes into salary structures, and how we work to balance fiscal responsibility with attracting and retaining high-quality staff for our students.

It Takes a Team

Students are supported by more than just classroom teachers. It takes a full team working together to make learning possible—teachers, aides, bus drivers, custodians, office staff, and many others. Each role matters, and each person plays a part in helping students succeed.

A Closer Look: How Salaries Work

School district salaries are designed to be fair, consistent, and transparent. Unlike many private-sector jobs, most public school employees are paid through structured salary schedules developed through negotiated agreements and approved by the Board of Education.

For most staff, pay is based on years of experience and level of education. As educators gain experience or earn advanced degrees, they move through the salary schedule in a predictable and transparent way.

For support staff and administrative roles, pay is also guided by position, responsibilities, and experience within ranges established by the Board of Education.

These systems are designed to attract and retain qualified, dedicated staff while being responsible stewards of public funds. They also help ensure employees are paid consistently and fairly.

Staffing is one of the most important investments a school district makes because people make learning possible. Lebanon City Schools remains committed to supporting students, valuing staff, and protecting the trust our community places in us.
