Lebanon City Schools - Reopening Plans 2020

July 1, 2020

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We’re ready to finalize planning for the fall, and we need you to decide which learning environment described below will work best for each student in your care.  Please review the information, and then follow the link at the bottom of this page to let us know your decision.  You can review the full Reopening Plans document by clicking here.  July 10 is the deadline to complete the form.  Your decision will be a firm commitment for FIRST SEMESTER 2020-2021.

OPTION 1: STUDENTS IN-PERSON AND IN-BUILDINGS DAILY WITH SAFETY PROTOCOLS (INCLUDING REMOTE LEARNING IF THE DISTRICT IS REQUIRED TO CLOSE)

  • This option will be as close to traditional school as possible.

  • Students will come to school daily and participate in most classes like they would have before the Coronavirus pandemic.

  • The district will implement safety protocols to the highest degree possible.  This includes physical distancing, wearing masks or face shields when needed, and enhanced cleaning and sanitation practices.

  • Our source for health and safety guidance is the Warren County Health District.

  • If students are riding Lebanon City Schools buses, they will be seated two-to-a-seat and they will be required to wear masks or face shields.

  • If state or local regulations require a school closure, we would shift into remote learning, which will be delivered by your student’s teachers.  Based on feedback from this spring, remote learning during 2020-2021 would have more regular check-ins, resources and content organized into Google classroom environments, and additional small group and individual learning opportunities for students.

OPTION 2: STUDENTS AT HOME DAILY- INDIVIDUAL ONLINE LEARNING WITH SUPPORT USING VIRTUAL LEARNING ACADEMY (VLA)

  • This option is different from what students experienced during remote learning last spring.

  • Students participating in this option will be using VLA, an online curriculum and platform designed by an outside company that specializes in virtual learning.

  • The curriculum will meet the same standards as our Lebanon City Schools curriculum, but it will not necessarily match the same pacing or activities that are delivered in school buildings.

  • Lebanon City Schools teachers will facilitate and support students’ learning, creating an online classroom community and communicating regularly with families.

  • Students and teachers will participate in virtual check-in meetings designed to support student course progress and provide opportunities for students to connect with each other.

  • Students will not come to a school building for instruction and will not be in the same classes or have the same teachers as students participating in Option 1.

  • Students may continue to participate in after-school activities at their school building, including extra-curricular activities.

  • The district will provide a chrome device for each student to use at home; students will not be asked to share devices.

  • The district will support families without wi-fi access.

  • Students will earn grades for their work.

  • Students will have access to courses in all core areas (English language arts, mathematics, sciences, and social studies).

  • Students will also have limited access to special area courses (K-6) and elective courses (7-12),  Students in grades 7-12 will not have access to their full schedule as planned this past spring.

  • If state or local regulations require a school closure, students participating in this option will continue as scheduled.

Please click here to complete a Google form for EACH of your students no later than Friday, July 10, 2020.  Thank you!
